About

Lighthouse Baptist Church of Wichita, KS is an independent Baptist church on the south of Wichita. Lighthouse Baptist was established by Foothills Baptist Church of Loveland, CO.

The Bible ▪ The Bible is our authority for all matters of doctrine and practice. Tradition can have a place in our lives, but God and His Word are the authority by which we operate. (Mark 7:1-9) The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice and our final authority for all matters of life.

The Fundamentals ▪ We firmly hold to the fundamentals of the Bible Doctrine. The fundamental doctrines of scripture are the foundation. Whether it’s the doctrine of the Trinity, the reality of heaven and hell, the historical accuracy of the scripture, the virgin birth of Jesus, and much more, the fundamentals are necessary for an effectual church and Christian life.

The Gospel ▪ The Great Commission was given by Christ to take the Gospel (the good news) of Jesus Christ to every person. This is a primary focus of our church, and there is a place in this ministry of spreading the Gospel for each person in the church—whether it’s a calling to be a “prayer warrior”, a calling to be involved in the logistics or a calling to be a front line “soldier” for Christ.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;” Romans 1:16
“Then saith [Jesus] unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

Reverence ▪ Humor and other things can have their place, but the church service is primarily a place and time of reverence. Our focus isn’t to create an emotional experience but, rather, a place where God is glorified and everyone is spiritually edified (built up). (1 Corinthians 14:12 & 26) Although the act of worship was sung about, worship was not primarily associated with music in the Bible. Worship was the act of humbling oneself and bowing in submission before God.

Holiness ▪ God is holy (separate from sin). He desires and commands Christians to live a holy life even as He is holy. (1 Peter 1:15-16) There’s always a place for people to grow in grace, but holy living needs to be taught and demonstrated. Every Christian has a sin “nature” (the “flesh”) which wars against the spirit. (Galatians 5:17) One of our primary goals as a church is to help one another be separated from the culture of the world and set apart for God’s use.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15

Sacred Music ▪ Our music is distinctly sacred. We use timeless hymns written by people who lived holy lives, along with a careful selection of newer songs. Much of today’s “Christian” songs have shallow lyrics coupled with unresolving musical styles and backbeats. These elements have replaced the moving of the Spirit of God with emotionalism and sensual effects.

Taking a Stand ▪ Most people would agree that a church needs to be a shining light of truth (2 Corinthians 5:18-20) and good works (Matthew 5:14-16), but the Bible also commands us to rebuke the works of darkness and take unpopular stands. The apostles were made “a spectacle to the world”, considered to be “fools”, were “despised”, and treated “as the filth of the world”. (1 Corinthians 4:9-14) Even within the early churches the Apostle Paul was under attack for what he taught (e.g. 2 Corinthians 10:10-11).
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Ephesians 5:11
“Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.” Hebrews 13:12-13
